“This is what the LORD says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the LORD. That person will be like a bush in the wastelands; they will not see prosperity when it comes. They will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives. But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17:8
As I look outside in the backyard, I observe the beautiful trees with lush green leaves turning bright yellow and crimson red for their last shining glory before they let go and fall to the ground. Autumn has begun; my favorite time of the year. Soon there will be piles of leaves for squirrels, dogs and children to run through. The bright colors will dim and what remains is the bare, yet sturdy tree trunks. The life of a Christian is like that of a deciduous tree; growth is slow, steady and ever-changing. We bud as we acquire new skills, behaviors and set new routines in place. We grow Fruit of the Spirit and bright leaves of His glory. Pruning, harvesting and winds come as our leaves and fruit fall. Yet, we do not descend, for our roots run deep and strong in Him: the Living Water.
Spend time reading the Bible. His living Word will refresh, strengthen and encourage you!
Prayer: Dear Lord, we know You patiently wait for us to soak up Your Word to see us stand firm, bear fruit, and shine Your glory to all. Thank you, Lord, for your forgiveness and the Word that conveys the truth, direction, and encouragement to our lives. Thank you for loving us! In Jesus’ precious name. Amen
