Love is Patient and Kind

Rocks_Love is Patient and Kind

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.”     1 Corinthians 13:4-5

There is a wealth of wisdom in these two verses! Several blogs worth, in fact! Let’s just focus on love being patient and kind. It may be easier to be patient and kind to a stranger or to an acquaintance, yet what about those we are with every day? It is difficult to be patient and kind every time we interact with a co-worker, neighbor, in-law, husband, wife, child or grandchild. Why is that? Certainly, there have been numerous interactions with loved ones that have left us agitated or hurt. It’s our hurt feelings, agitation or frustration that sometimes block us from being patient, therefore we might snap back a quick response out of anger. Sadly, this just continues the cycle of hurting one another.

How can we stop the cycle? Seeking the Lord and following His Word. “Love is patient, love is kind.” The next time we recognize hurt feelings swelling inside, let’s pause and ask the Lord to help us respond out of love and kindness. His patience and love are far greater than our own. I’m so thankful that He is so kind, gracious and forgiving.

Be encouraged!

Prayer: Dear Loving Father, thank you for Your love, forgiveness, and grace. It is Your love within me, that gives me the strength to be patient. It is what Your Son did for me on the cross, that humbles me to say I am sorry and to ask for forgiveness when I have not been patient. Father, please help us to let go of the hurt feelings and be more patient and kind like You. In Your precious Son’s name, Jesus. Amen.
