Nebuchadnezzar then approached the opening of the blazing furnace and shouted,… servants of the Most High God, come out! Come here! Praise be to the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who has sent his angel and rescued his servants! Daniel 3:26 & 28
King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon witnessed the miracle of men being thrown into a furnace and yet, they were not burned alive. He called the men to come out, and he could see they hadn’t been touched by the fire in anyway. Their clothes did not smell of smoke and their ropes of bondage had fallen away.
Nebuchadnezzar praises the Lord for this miracle. He acknowledges that the God of these Hebrew men is amazingly powerful and can do feats that he has never seen done before or ever dreamed could happen.
And yet knowledge of God’s existence and proof of His sovereign power and mercy, did not change Nebuchadnezzar’s heart. He believed the Lord was a god, not THE GOD. He still worshiped and believed in other gods. Even if he believed the Lord was most powerful, he was hedging his bets and covering all his bases by retaining his worship of all gods.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I see your power, I see the proof of your existence in the beauty of your creation and I see your mercy displayed in the sacrifice of your Son. I believe Lord, I believe! You are the One True God, nothing and no one compares to You.
Help me be all in Lord, turn my eyes from worthless idols. I don’t want to hedge my bets or cover my bases by trusting in anything or anyone but you Lord. You alone deserve my worship and adoration. You have been so good to me. I love you my Father. Amen.
