“Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?” they asked. “Isn’t this the Carpenter’s son? Isn’t his mother’s name Mary, and aren’t his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas?” And they took offense at him. Matthew 13:54c-57
Jesus visits His hometown and begins teaching the people in their synagogue. They were amazed at His wisdom and the miracles He performed. But then they began to talk with each other, “Isn’t this that Carpenter’s son? He lived right here in Nazareth. We know him and his entire family. He wasn’t amazing when he lived here, he was just a normal man, that grew up as a normal child. He’s nothing special! Who does he think he is?”
The people of Nazareth thought they knew Jesus, He lived among them for years. They could not accept that Jesus was so much more than what they thought they knew. They closed their minds and their hearts to any other possibility, because of their previous knowledge and they missed out on the blessings of the Good News Jesus wanted to share with them.
Do you think you know who Jesus is? Have you closed the door to learning anything new about Him? Let me encourage you today, to open that door back up. We will never fully understand all of who Jesus is and what He’s done for us. And yet the Lord in His great love for us wants to continue to reveal Himself as we grow closer to Him.
Read the Gospel of Luke with new eyes. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you a new aspect of Jesus’ character. Be open, to continued learning about your Savior. Don’t miss out on the blessings Jesus wants to share with you.
Prayer: O Lord, how we thank you for our Savior Jesus. Thank you for all He is and all that He has done. Please keep teaching us more about your Son. We want to keep growing and learning. Amen.
