The sun broke free from the clouds and the rays filtered through my window and begged for me to walk outside. The cold, wet days had brought a heaviness upon me, that I eagerly accepted the invitation from the sunshine. First, I gingerly stepped across the stepping stones and cautiously disappeared into the woods. Birds flew passed me, squirrels scurried up the trees and the rustling of the dry leaves on the ground revealed a garter snake slithering in front of me. I surveyed the property spying many broken branches that had fallen during heavy winds.
I felt the sun rays beaming upon me and lifted my face to soak it in. My eyes were closed and I thanked the Lord for this warm embrace. I looked up at the tree above me seeing pink blossoms bursting forth. Oh, the excitement of Spring quickly approaching prompted me to search for more flowers. This time I peered down along the pathway searching for wildflowers popping through the fallen leaves. I saw a few wild pansies unfolding their purple royal color, daisies joyfully dancing in the wind and daffodil trumpets announcing Spring’s arrival. Among the ivy, I noticed another broken bare branch that lay just below the cherry tree. The limb was void of cherry blossoms because it was no longer attached to the tree which had been it’s source of life.
This was one of those Aha! moments, when I saw an example of what it is like to be a child of God. This cherry tree with vibrant pink flowers on every connected branch was filled to capacity with blooms of life. Yet, the limb that had broken apart, laying on the ground entangled in ivy, did not have a single pink blossom. It could no longer bear as it was dead. When we break apart from living the life that God has created for us, we wither, dry up, and produce nothing. Apart from God, we can never fully thrive. On that account, trust in Him, draw strength and life from Him, through His peace and joy, bloom like never before!
“I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for giving us new life that flourishes because of Your Son. May we bloom each day for all to see You in our life. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
