“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”
“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’” John 8:12
I heard a little riddle this morning about a rabbit hopping along that fell into a hole. The rabbit saw a bird flying overhead and yelled out, “I need help!” The bird dropped a couple of feathers into the hole to help and flew away. A tiger came by and the rabbit cried, “Help me please!” And the tiger gave the rabbit an extra sharp claw. The rabbit questioned, “How is this going to help me?” The bird has many feathers and can fly. The tiger has sharp claws and can climb. However, these things can’t help me. Not too long thereafter, another rabbit came up to the edge and jumped into the hole. The first rabbit said, “No! Why did you jump into this hole?” The second rabbit said, “Don’t worry! I’ve been in this hole before and I know how to get out. Follow me!”
How many times have we been in the deepest, darkest hole and wondered are we ever going to get out? Sometimes, we have dug our own hole by the choices that we have made. Or, we may just be moving forward in our life and something happens to where we fall into the hole. There could be many, many reasons why we find ourselves in a hole. What do we do to get out?
Someone might come by and offer their two “feathers” of advice that might provide some relief. Perhaps, another tries to help by giving sharp direction that only hurts, but doesn’t really help us out. Yet, the best way to get out of the hole is to seek the Lord’s help. He gets down into that hole with us and helps us to get out into the bright light of life. He knows the way! It’s when we follow Him, seek His word, pray to Him about our concerns, and ask for His help that we are able to endure and get out of the hole. Also, the One who knows the most about suffering is right there waiting for you to ask Him for help. He was created to help us out of the darkness.
Yesterday was good Friday. I’ve struggled with the name “good” Friday, as it’s the day that our Savior was crucified. Yet, I know it is good because through His sacrifice we may be redeemed. As we move into this weekend, take some time to reflect on our Savior’s love and sacrifice for us. If there are things in your life that keep placing you back into that dark hole, ask the Lord to help you remove those things from your life and hop forward into His Light!
The most exciting thing about Easter, for me, is knowing that Jesus has risen. I think that all of the wonderful flowers that are blooming right now are such a beautiful reminder that Jesus has risen!
May your Easter weekend be filled with many blessings as you celebrate our risen King!
Prayer: Dear loving Father, thank You for providing a way out of the dark holes and into the light of life. Thank You for sending Jesus to help us into Your family! In His precious name, Amen!
