Investigate My Life

“Investigate my life, O God, find out everything about me; Cross-examine and test me, get a clear picture of what I’m about; See for yourself whether I’ve done anything wrong— then guide me on the road to eternal life.” – Psalm 139:23-24

“God is faithful and reliable. If we confess our sins, he forgives them and cleanses us from everything we’ve done wrong.” 1 John 1:9 GWT

My heart pounded right up into my throat. My hearing became murky as if I was underwater. I ached throughout my body as I awaited to sit before a grand jury. All I needed to do was tell precisely what happened to me prior to the night my family and I became victims of a crime.

The District Attorney led me into the room and sat beside me in front of a grand jury comprised of peers. As I took a deep breath, prayed and began to speak, I could feel the hot, prickly ache leave my body as I expressed what happened. I heard my voice gain confidence and no longer waver as I concluded. I looked into the eyes of each of the jury as they began to cross-examine me to gather clarified facts. I felt heard and emboldened for the first time since the crime.

When I ask God to cross-examine me, my heart pounds and my body aches as I recall my imperfections, my wrong-doings, my sin. Yet, I know that once I confess my sins to God, He not only hears and forgives me, but emboldens and strengthens my character. As I read His Word, He instructs me on how to live my life and how to place my trust fully in Him, because He is faithful and reliable. I am so thankful that He guides and protects me on the road to eternal life.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your forgiveness and Your loving guidance. Strengthen my frame as I accept Your investigation into my life, because I know that You will bring about good to honor You. Please bless the lives of the readers and show them Your faithfulness and peace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  1. Thank you for this wonderful illustration. I especially loved the thought about placing our trust fully in Him. Isn’t this what it is all about? In the little every day things and the big, big things that happen in our lives. Blessings to you and yours, Susan
