For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. Luke 11:10
Finances have often been challenging for our family. My husband is a realtor and his income has never been consistent, it is more like: feast or famine. In one of those famine periods my Carly girl wanted a specific doll: a Strawberry Shortcake doll. She had been working very hard on her school work, and was feeling low and discouraged. Being dyslexic made school exhausting and frustrating for her. I would have loved to buy her that doll, but we did not have extra money at that time.
The school week was over and on Saturday morning I thought it would be fun to go garage sale shopping with Carly. It would get us both out of the house and who knows what treasures we might find for under five dollars? Carly didn’t want to go, but I told her maybe we could find her doll at a sale. She was still so discouraged, I said, “Lets pray and ask God to please find you a Strawberry Shortcake doll today at the sales”. So we did and then we set out to find some treasures. But I could tell, she wasn’t holding out a lot of hope.
At the second garage sale we stopped at, Carly found her doll! She picked it up as if it were a precious jewel, with surprise and awe written all over her face. Then she came running to me. “Look mommy, look what the Lord has given me, it’s the exact doll I wanted and it’s only a dollar, I can’t believe it!”
“Why would the Lord make a miracle for me? He didn’t have to do it, I really don’t need this doll. Aren’t the Lord’s miracles for the big important things in the world?” Carly asked.
I gave her a hug and said, “The Lord did this, just because He loves you. He knows how hard you have been working and how discouraged you have been, He wanted you to know He sees your efforts and He’s proud of you.”
Carly had a turning point in her relationship with the Lord that day; from that point on, God was intensely real to her. He was not just the God who saves us, or the God that made the world, He was her Heavenly Father that loved her.
Prayer: Thank you Father, that you are always growing our faith, and making yourself real to each one of us personally. That miracles are not just for world events, but also for your children that love you. I praise your wonderful Name!
