“With praise and thanksgiving they sang to the Lord: ‘He is good; his love toward Israel endures forever.’ And all the people gave a great shout of praise to the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid.” Ezra 3:11
With the help of a ladder, the roof has become an upper loft with great views. Dry, sunny days have opened up the outdoors to expand our living space. High upon the rooftop, sat two satisfied young men who had climbed a tall, silver ladder earlier that day to remove seizing moss with their father. The warm Spring weather has declared opportunities to clean the outside of the house from rooftop down to the patio, out into the green yard and across the flourishing property. With each completed project, rest, appreciation and thanksgiving followed: we thanked the Lord for our home.
After studying the book of Ezra in the Bible, I can imagine the building of the temple. Fathers, sons and brothers working beside each other with wood, tools and tons of gold. Though it was their hands that built the temple, it was by the Lord’s grace and provision that they built His house. The people could now worship God in His temple. The physical foundation of the house of the Lord was laid; and so, they sang praises to the Lord.
We have so much to praise the Lord for: our firm foundation has been laid through the sacrifice of Christ! The Bible tells us that when we believe in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, our bodies are the temple of God. We do not need to build a physical temple to worship God, because the Holy Spirit dwells within us. We can praise Him at any time anywhere, even on top of the roof!
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Prayer: Dear Lord, as we work through our days side by side, help us to lay down foundations of gold by helping one another and telling others about Your Son. We praise You, Lord, for your provisions and grace. We praise You for the precious gift of Your Son, Jesus. Amen.
