Now Moses used to take a tent and pitch it outside the camp some distance away, calling it the “tent of meeting”. As Moses went into the tent, the pillar of cloud would come down and stay at the entrance, while the Lord spoke with Moses. Exodus 33:7&9
When I was young, I used to think the place to meet with God was on my knees, by my bed. My mother taught me a short prayer to recite every night, which was the extent of my prayer life. As I got older I began to share my heart and concerns with the Lord and seek His help in my daily life, all of course, still on my knees, by my bed.
Then one day someone told me they prayed while sitting on their sofa, with coffee nearby. This revolutionized my prayer time.
Like Moses, I now had a “tent of meeting”, a place where the Lord spoke to me, as I read His Word the Bible. My sofa was the place I talked to God and shared my concerns.
Is my sofa the only place I meet with the Lord? No, it’s just one of many. I still pray on my knees from time to time and I pray over meals and with friends. I meet with God on quiet hikes through leaf laden woods, on long, tight airplane rides and in stolen moments by my kitchen sink. But my most frequent “tent of meeting” is still my sofa.
I have learned I can talk to my Heavenly Father anywhere and anytime I want and He is always available and so happy I have come to meet with Him.
What are some of your favorite and unique “tent of meeting” areas?
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, How blessed I am that my Lord wants to meet with me. That you want to share your time with me and hear my heart. Thank you Lord, that you even desire a relationship with me. Bless me oh Lord I pray, as I meet with you every day. Amen.
