“Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” Matthew 18:19-20
Yesterday, Linda, Debbie and I were taking a lunch break at Linda’s home in Tualatin. We had a great morning planning for The Encouraging Word ministry. All of a sudden, Linda asked, “Is that smoke?” We looked outside and saw smoke rising through the trees. We stepped outside into smoke-filled air with pieces of ash falling like snowflakes. We went upstairs for a better view to see if we could see flames. Linda called 911 while Debbie and I prayed. Fire trucks were already arriving and many more were on the way.
We could not see the fire, but we saw and smelled the smoke. As the smoke and ash increased we could hear the crackling of the fire. We prayed for the protection of the neighborhood and the firefighters. We reached out to family to join us in prayer. We went outside to talk to the fireman that was assessing the fire danger for Linda’s neighborhood. He could not be disturbed.
We went back inside. We saw a drone flying above the smoke and firefighters on the other side of Linda’s fence. We felt helpless because there was nothing we could do nor did we know exactly what was happening. All we could do was trust the Lord to answer our prayers.
Later in the evening, we found out that three acres of woods behind Linda’s house had burned. The terrain was so difficult to get water to the area that they had used a drone to see where to access it with smaller four-wheel-drive vehicles to shuttle water in. Finally, the fire was contained: God answered our prayers!
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your protection. Thank You for hearing our prayers. When we find ourselves in helpless situations, we can find peace in knowing that You hear our prayers and are always in control! Thank You! In Your Son’s name, Amen!
