“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” John 14:1-3
I was driving through the country listening to a sermon on the radio. He was talking about the Christian walk and how some people view their salvation as a ticket into Heaven and that’s all it is to them. Nothing more, nothing less. I was having difficulty grasping this idea.
I started thinking about having tickets in general. For example, having plane tickets to Hawaii. We wouldn’t just stick those tickets away, we would know exactly where they are and we would be preparing for our trip. We would begin to research what the weather will be like and what clothing we’ll need. We might make a list of what to pack in our carry on bag for the flight. And once we arrive in Hawaii, we will most likely already have an itinerary of the places, people and things we’d like to see. Think of all that investment of time spent on this fictitious trip. However, I’m sure that in reality each one of us has planned a trip before. We can reflect back on how much time we’ve spent preparing for a trip on Earth.
Yet, how often have we dug into and researched about our final destination of Heaven and the One who made it all possible? How well do we know Him? Have we said yes to the invitation, but don’t truly know where we are going? Do we truly understand? Let’s open our carry on bag today and take out our Bible to search His Word and spend time thanking God for His eternal provision; a place for us in Heaven with Him.
Prayer: Dear Father, thank You for preparing a place for us. Thank You for providing an “itinerary” within the Bible. Thank You that each time we read it we learn more about You and Your plans for us. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
