Quiet Time with the Lord

“Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” Mark 6:31b

How important is it to spend time alone with the Lord?

In our busy, fast-paced world even 30 minutes of quiet time with the Lord can seem impossible to squeeze in during a day. We have jobs, chores, friends and family that need our attention and sometimes our prayers and devotional time get pushed out of the picture. But in reality, the busier we are, the more we need that quiet time with God.

In Mark chapter 6 the disciples had just returned to Jesus after an extended preaching  tour. They came, excited to share of all they had done, and yet were weary from their travels. They also came to Jesus bearing the sad news of John the Baptist death. And still the people sought Jesus’ attention, so many in fact, the Bible tells us they didn’t even have time to eat. Now that’s a busy schedule.

Yet even with all the needs of people around them Jesus purposely seeks time with the Father. For He knows that’s where the real healing and refreshment come from.

Set aside a time to meet with God every day. Don’t hope you can squeeze it in somewhere, somehow. Set a time, schedule it in your calendar.

The Lord is calling you to come and be with Him. To hear from Him through His Word and to talk to Him in prayer. Come to Jesus, by yourself and get some rest. Jesus will restore and refresh you.

Prayer: Thank you my Father, that you want to be with me, that you seek my company, and long to comfort and refresh me each day. Help me make you a priority in my schedule and not just a possibility. I love you Lord. Amen.

  1. Oh Linda, how true is your message. God longs for us to spend time with Him. Don’t we all love to spend time with our children? We are His children and we need to be in His presence for teaching, comfort, renewal and rest. I agree with your prayer. Let it be so for each one of us. Amen. Blessings to you and yours. Susan
