A Time to Laugh

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens… a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance. Ecclesiastes 3:1,4

You never know when or what will strike your funny bone. We were driving back from Estacada the other day and ahead of us was this funny shaped vehicle. It caught us by surprise and my husband and I had quite a laugh as we approached this traveling food truck.

I so appreciate that God created us with a sense of humor. He knew it was truly good medicine for the soul. I can recall countless times when a good laugh lifted my heavy spirit. There is a lot of heaviness in this world, yet there is a time to laugh.

Another thing I appreciate is the beautiful laughter of a baby or child. When my sons were little, they giggled so much, it was very contagious. I love being around children because they find joy in so many things. On Sunday, I served in my church’s nursery. One little girl sat down next to a box of little plastic animals. Each time she reached into the box and pulled out an animal, she would smile, say what it was and giggle!

I wonder if that’s how Adam felt when he named the animals. Did he study it, smile, name it and giggle? He certainly must have when he came across the platypus. God certainly has a sense of humor! Oh, what joy our Creator had!

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, help us to see, with children’s eyes, Your creation all around us. May we find joy and time to laugh throughout our days. It is because of Your precious Son that we may have true joy at all times! In His name, Jesus. Amen!

  1. I could feel you smiling and laughing as you wrote this. Yes, so good that God gifted us with laughter and joy. We definitely need more of it. Children know so much more about this than we who are educated. Find something to smile about today and Praise God for all His Goodness! Blessings, Susan

  2. This was beautiful. The laughter of babies took me back to not so long ago when my oldest was just about 8 or 9 months old and she would giggle at the silliest things but it made me smile and laugh until i cried at times. 💓. This was a beautiful read. Thank you for sharing.
