Love One Another

And this is his command: to believe in the name of his son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another. 1 John 3:23

My daughter’s wedding shower is just around the corner. I’ve been planning and working on it for weeks: the menu, the decorations, the games and all the special touches that will shower blessings on her at this special time.

One of the guests is coming from a very long distance away to be a part of Carly’s special day and was wanting to stay with us. However, our extra bedrooms were already full. Hearing this, it didn’t phase her in the least, she said she would look for somewhere else to stay, but she still wanted to come.

For a moment I was relieved. I didn’t have another house guest to take care of at this busy time. But as I thought about it, I pondered what was the purpose of all my hard work? The menu, the decorations and games were all to highlight the real purpose of the gathering; to shower Carly with love and support from people that cared about her. The event was about people, not things.

That a precious friend of the family would choose to fly great distances to join us in showering Carly with love was the true meaning of the wedding shower.

I quickly found a place for her to stay close by and assured her we would pick her up from the airport.

How good and gracious is the Lord to us! He gently reminds us of what is important and then pours His love and joy in our hearts as we embrace His plan for our lives, and loving one another is part of that plan.

Prayer: Oh Lord, how thankful I am for the wonderful people you have placed in my life. You make life so rich, through community. Continue to remind me of life’s priorities and to love others as you told us too. Amen.
