You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand! Psalm 139:5-6 NLT
I woke up to the sound of rain on the patio. As I hurried from my bed to look out the window, what I saw formed a knot in my stomach. Today was my daughter’s bridal shower; a ladies luncheon, with depression glass, flowers, signs and banners, all beautifully displayed, outside!
However, this was no gentle summer mist, that would float away with the sun, this was a shower with measurable rainfall. What were we to do? As I quickly got ready for the day, finishing the last-minute food preparations, the rain continued to fall. How could we fit 24 ladies at a formal sit-down lunch inside the house?
Of course, we all prayed, asking our Heavenly Father to stop the rain, so we could still have the shower outside. But we also prayed for God’s peace and powerful blessing on this gathering, that whether we had the shower indoors or out, my daughter Carly would be blessed, along with all the guests.
However, even as we prayed, a voice in the back of my head whispered, why would God, the Creator of the universe stop the rain for you? For this bridal shower? Don’t you think there are other people that are actually praying for rain? Doesn’t the Lord have more important life-saving prayers to answer than this one? I knew of course that God did, but I also knew that my Father cared about me personally, cared about all the effort and time that had been spent to bless this gathering, by the many hands that had helped.
As a small child comes to his father with his broken toy, asking his daddy to fix it, would his father say, “No, that is silly, I have more important things to do”? The loving father, says, “Of course I will fix your toy”, because he knows how important it is to his little son and he is happy his son comes to him to ask.
Our Heavenly Father is happy that we seek Him and ask His help. And He always answers us, not always as we would want but always in ways that are best for all.
As the rain begin to slow down and then taper off completely, we lifted our voices and praise to God. The weather turned out perfect, just as the bridal shower did. God’s blessings showered down on us all.
Prayer: My Heavenly Father, thank you for caring personally for me, for answering my prayers and for giving me peace as I wait on your timing. I love you Lord. Amen.
