Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He brought them out of darkness, the utter darkness, and broke away their chains. Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind, for he breaks down gates of bronze and cuts through bars of iron. Psalm 107:13-16
Truly I am your servant, Lord; I serve you just as my mother did; you have freed me from my chains. Psalm 116:16
I’m certain that many of us have played the game Twister or at least have seen it. There is a large floor mat with brightly colored circles and a spinner that tells players where to put a hand or foot. In the beginning, you might be standing on the mat in a bear crawl or crab walk depending on where the spinner has told you to place your hands and feet. At that time, it’s pretty simple to stay on your circles. However, after several more turns, you begin to get tangled up with the people you are playing with.
Sin is a lot like that: it can entangle our lives and the lives of others around us. At first, it might be a simple step, a sinful choice you’ve made thinking no one will know, but over time, your hands and feet have tripped yourself and others to possibly fall into the same sin.
It is so important for us to not get twisted in sin, but to stand firm in Christ. Yet, what if we have misstepped? What if we’ve found ourselves chained in sin? There is Good News! When we reach our hand up to Christ, He helps us out of our twisted entanglement and breaks the chains. It is through Christ that we can become unshackled from our sin. When He is the Ruler of our life, He guides us where to place our hands and feet and we are set free.
Prayer: Dear Lord, if there is anyone feeling chained to sin right now, Lord, cause them to lift their hands and heart to You and ask for forgiveness. Set them free, guide their walk and help them to serve You with their hands. Lord, thank You for Your unfailing love. In Jesus’ name. Amen
