The Lord Knows My Name

Listen to me, all you in distant lands! Pay attention, you who are far away! The Lord called me before my birth; from within the womb he called me by name.” Isaiah 49:1

My daughter Carly, future son-in-law Tyler and myself had just arrived at Abernathy Center in Oregon City. We were touring possible wedding locations that day. As we pulled into the parking lot, we began to look for a place to park. We noticed one right in front, but it looked like it had a “reserved” sign in front of it. As we drove by, we read, “Reserved for Carly Colby”.

“What is that?!!” We exclaimed! “Abernethy Center knows your name!” Carly felt like traveling royalty as we pulled into the spot marked for her. We all loved it. What a great way to begin our introductory visit with them. And as it so happens, we did end up choosing them for their wedding site and each time we go back for detail meetings, Carly’s reserved parking sign is up and waiting for her.

That simple sign meant so much to us. It made Carly feel acknowledged and special, that Abernethy Center took the time to know her name.

If a simple reserved parking sign with our name on it can make us feel special, how do we feel when we realize the Lord Almighty knows our name?

God not only knows our name, but loves us and cares for us deeply. That kind of knowledge can change the course of our lives.

Will you choose the Lord, to follow and love? He has a place reserved just for you. He knows you well and calls you by name.

Prayer: Almighty God, how blessed we are to be loved by you. To be known, even with all of our faults and yet to still be wanted and loved by you; the Maker of the universe. Thank you Heavenly Father for making us feel so special. Amen.

Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” 1 Peter 5:7

“I have loved you my people with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.” Jeremiah 31:3
