“And now, O sons, listen to me: blessed are those who keep my ways.
Hear instruction and be wise, and do not neglect it. Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting beside my doors. For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the Lord.” Proverbs 8:32-35
I have come to enjoy my mini-vacations of time in prayer with the Lord and reading His Word. Oftentimes it takes me to another place emotionally, spiritually and physically. I form vivid scenes in my imagination as I wander into green pastures, stroll beside still waters and walk along the road to Jerusalem.
I envision myself sitting on a rock beside the sea as Jesus speaks to me from the boat. There is a gentle warm breeze and the waves are quietly lapping against the shore. I am close to Jesus and I cling to every word He speaks. He looks across the crowd, His gaze rests upon me and I know He confirms my presence as He smiles.
Oh, how I hunger to stay there. Yet, I must come down from the mountain. I must walk back down to where there are struggles. I must live my life during the good and hard times in a way that honors God, reflecting the character of His Son. Sometimes the hardships of life make it a struggle to display patience, kindness, and joy. But the more time I spend with Jesus the easier it is to rely on the Spirit to help me slow down, listen, smile and encourage others in my life.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to not neglect You, but draw each one of us to You. May we wait before Your doors to hear Your instruction and wisdom so that we may find favor from You. We love you, Lord. Amen
