The Word of Encouragement

My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9

The Encouraging Word team sat quietly, as we listened to our new business manager tell us the next steps we needed to take to get our ministry up and running. A thick film began to descend on my brain as I tried to take in and understand the technical and financial concepts she was talking about. I was a writer and a Bible teacher, this information was completely out of my comfort zone, it flew right over my head.

The next morning I was feeling overwhelmed and inadequate with the daunting task set before us. We were just three women; a nurse, a counselor and a Bible teacher that had come together because we felt God’s call on our lives. A call to produce culturally relevant Bible studies, that would gather people together in fellowship to share the joys and the hardships of life.

I needed an encouraging word from the Lord. A confirmation of His call on my life or something for me to hold onto as I forged ahead with the work. I opened my Bible to my daily reading section, praying to hear from the Lord about this issue and though my time in the Word was good, I didn’t receive the support and motivation I was longing for.

However, on my morning walk, the Lord spoke to me through my music. Jumpstart3 was singing Philippians 3:14, “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

It was incredible! It was just what I needed. I came away with; press on toward the goal God has set before me, continue to do the work of writing and leading the Encouraging Word.

And in relation to my being overwhelmed with everything that needed to be done, the Lord impressed upon me that the work He was doing in me was important too, as He challenged me to rise to the occasion as I trusted Him in my weakness. For His power “is made perfect in weakness”.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, how good and kind you are to your children. You inspire us, enable us and help us to stand up in the face of trials. For it is you working in us to fulfill your good purposes (Philippians 2:13). Thank you for your encouragement today oh Lord. In Jesus name. Amen.

  1. Linda, your message reminded me of a song by Twila Paris, ” The Warrior is a child”. You should look it up. The lyrics are very timely for you. Blessings, Susan
