What A Day That Will Be

“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” Isaiah 26:3

Once there was this little rock who sat beside a stream. It often wondered when the day would come for it to be washed over like its friends closer in. It enjoyed its days of sunshine and really enjoyed the rain. In fact, it knew that the more it rained, the higher the stream would rise and become closer to the little rock. One day, there was a huge frog that jumped along the stream and jumped upon the rock. The rock asked the frog, “Is there any way that you could put me into the stream?” The frog croaked back, “Little rock you do not want to be in the stream. It is dangerous for rocks your size.” The frog jumped away leaving the rock where it had always been.

Day after day the little rock watched the water flow by and wondered what the frog meant. In fact, all the little rock could do these days was think about where it wasn’t. It no longer enjoyed its days or the animals that came down beside the stream. It hardly spoke to anyone anymore. Recently, a bird stood upon the little rock and asked, “Why are you so blue little rock?” It replied, “I’m not able to do what I want and yet, I see where I want to be.” The bright yellow and green bird flew away and chirped, “You must be happy where you are little rock.”

Over several weeks a storm had moved in. The stream rose to a turbulent river and lightning struck trees all around. Just out of sight was a dam that breached releasing tons of water. A massive wave was headed towards little rock. The raging water grabbed ahold of little rock tossing it many miles down the stream. Little rock was terrified of the entire event. Water continued to agitate over little rock for days. Little rock grew weary as it wondered what had happened and where it was now. The water was dirty and foamy blocking little rock’s view. Oh, how it wanted to see the sky and the animals that used to visit. Why couldn’t it be back upstream beside the water and not inside the stream?

Much time had passed and all little rock could do was hear the flowing water or the splash of an animal nearby. No one spoke to little rock in its new home. Little rock longingly reflected back on its days beside the stream. One morning, there was quite a bit of splashing nearby and other rocks were hitting against little rock. All of a sudden, little rock was clutched out of the water and dropped upon dry land. Little rock heard laughter and gazed around to see blue sky, the bright, warm sun and children playing. Little rock was so thankful to be back out of the stream and remembered what the frog and bird had said. Little rock would forever listen to wise counsel and be thankful no matter where it was.

C.S. Lewis wrote in the Magician’s Nephew, “For what you see and hear depends a good deal on where you are standing: it also depends on what sort of person you are.”

God has given us free will to think, feel and act how we choose. No matter what our circumstances may be, let’s remember to choose to think upon His blessings, look to Him for comfort, radiate His peace, and share His wisdom with others.

Be encouraged!

Prayer: Oh Heavenly Father, thank You for Your inspiration that is all around us in the many blessings You provide. Help us to trust You even in the rapid or murky waters of life. Thank You for the promises in Your Word that if we keep our mind focused on You we will have peace. I look forward to the day, Lord, that You clutch me and bring me home: what a day that will be! In Jesus’ precious name. Amen
