“Jesus said, Love the Lord your God with all of your heart and with all of your soul and with all of your mind.” Matthew 22:37
Clark and Maya, my sweet grandchildren are coming for a visit. Clark lives in Alaska, and Maya lives in Alabama, so this is a special treat. I have been preparing for this event for many months: keeping my eyes open at garage sales for any treasures they might have need of, borrowing a crib, emptying rooms and setting up new rooms just right for little hands, rescuing my children’s old toys from the attic for reuse and we even got new carpet upstairs (it was badly over due).
What a joy it has all been, preparing for the arrival of my grandchildren and imagining the fun I will have playing with them and squeezing on them.
Our Lord is so good to us to give us things to look forward to, to plan for and prepare for. It makes life so sweet.
As believers we have the greatest event of our lives to look forward to; standing before our Savior Jesus and seeing Him face-to-face, oh what a great day that will be.
But before that happens we can choose to make some changes and preparations. Here are some ideas to help prepare for that special day.
1. Keep your eyes open for treasures you can store in heaven. (Matt. 6:20-21)
2. If you don’t have one, borrow a Bible, God’s Word is essential in preparing to meet Jesus. (2 Tim. 3:16)
3. Empty some rooms and rip out old carpet. Get rid of any lingering sin or old habits that keep you from spending time with Jesus, make more room for Jesus in your hearts. (Col. 3:5)
4. Rescue the thoughts and feelings you had when you first came to Christ. Revive and keep fresh your first love of Jesus. (Revelation 2:4-5)
It is all joy my brothers and sisters as we prepare our hearts to see Jesus and imagine the great pleasure we will experience in His presence.
Prayer: My Father, how I long for the day when I will see my Savior face-to-face. Help me prepare my heart for that awesome day and fill me with joy in the journey. In Jesus name. Amen.
