”And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7
As I drove along a busy Portland, Oregon street, slowly inching along the way, I began to feel my tension rise as my neck and shoulder muscles tightened. Why did I take the wrong exit?! Now I’m stuck in traffic trying to get to an ill friend. At first, I kept glancing at the speedometer as if the zero was wrong. Then I’d gaze up at the cars before me thinking if they’d just move already we’d all be on our way!
But then it happened: I looked out of my side window and saw the beautiful fall colored trees, the sparkling river in the distance and the bright sun skimming across the tops of the trees. I took a deep breath in and began to daydream that I was kayaking on the river, gliding with minimal effort. Suddenly, among the traffic chaos, I found peace in God’s creation. I chose a different view that resulted in a calm spirit.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for the daily blessings that surround us. They help us to be reminded that You created all things, care for all of our needs, and are in control of all. May we always choose a view of You! Amen
