The Kindness of our Savior

Do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance? Romans 2:4

The vibrant colored leaves crunched beneath our feet as we walked. The air was crisp and cool, the sun was shining and pastries and lattes waited for us at a nearby coffee house. Life was good. We felt thankful and blessed on this beautiful Fall day.

When we arrived at Saint Irene’s there was a long line at the counter, so Derek asked if I wanted to grab a table while he stood in line. He got us a couple glasses of water and I sat down to wait. After a bit he looked back at me and gave me a wink, which I responded with a little smile and a wave.

The young woman at the table next to us, turned to me and asked if he was my husband, as she pointed at Derek.

“Yes, he is”, I responded.

She looked at me and said, “He’s very kind”.

“Why do you say that?” I asked.

“He’s standing in line for you, he got you water and he winked at you. That’s what I want in a husband.” She said.

As we began to chat, she shared that her husband had left her. I encouraged her not to give up, that there was a kind man for her too. She gave me a small smile as she wiped the tears from her eyes.

I thought of this young woman off and on all day. She was so sad, and lonely, so longing for love.

But isn’t this what we all want? Don’t we all long for kindness and recognition, a love that is lasting and encouraging? Ultimately, we all long for Jesus. We all have an empty hole in our hearts, that only God can fill.

Jesus prepared the way for us when He took our sin at the cross. We don’t have to wait in line to see God any more, we have direct access. Jesus gave us the water of the Word and He encourages us daily through His Holy Spirit.

I am so grateful for my Savior Jesus that loves me. I have many reasons indeed, to be thankful on this beautiful Fall day.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your faithful love for me. Thank you for my kind Savior that gives me everything I need, every day. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

  1. It amazes me just how much hurt there is in the world and how ripe it is for the showing of His love. If we would only love as He does the world would lap it up like a thirsty man in the desert.

You are blessed to have a kind man as your husband and an opportunity to share the love of the Beloved with the hurting. May God add to your blessings and give you many more opportunities to share in His great love.
