“Let the trees of the forest sing, let them sing for joy before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth. Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His loving devotion endures forever.” 1 Chronicles 16:33-34
August 30, 2018, I took my sons and mom to the Columbia River Gorge. We set out for an adventure to celebrate my mom’s 75 precious years of life. We stopped at the wonderful Multnomah Falls Lodge. It was here, that we really noticed the destruction of the Eagle Creek fire that burned 50,000 acres of forest last year. We could see the trees that had been burned on both sides of the falls. It was very sad to see. Yet, as we drove through the Gorge, we saw the amazing and beautiful green brush that had grown back from the ashes. Even many of the trees with burnt trunks, still had green branches on top. Their branches were lifted as if they were praising the Lord for their spared lives. From the ashes, beauty grows.
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.” Isaiah 43:2
We grow from our own personal fires when we walk with the Lord. I can look back at my fiery years and see so much beauty that has come from them. For example, I am closer to my family and friends who walked beside me during the hottest flames. My relationship with the Lord has deepened as I relied upon Him for strength. Many opportunities and blessings have grown out of the ashes. I am so thankful for His provision and protection and I give thanks that He is always with me.
Prayer: Dear Lord of hope, thank You for the beautiful reminders of who You are in Your creation; the beautiful waterfalls, rivers, oceans and forests. You give us peace that surpasses all understanding even when a fire comes and destroys. For You are right there with us ready for restoration and beautiful new growth. Thank you! In Jesus’ precious name, amen!
