Be Still

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him. Psalm 37:7

As I lifted my voice in worship and let the peace of the Lord fill my heart, I could feel my burdens and concerns slip from my shoulders. I sang, “We will be still and know that you are God.”

For the last few days my heart has been anxious and grieving over a situation of unjust treatment and verbal discouragement. Treatment that could change the course of a life.

And yet the Lord calls us to trust Him, whatever the outcome may be. We know our God is good, He does not play games with us; leading us to hope and plan and then yanking the rug out from under us. God’s hand is firmly on us, even when we make prideful mistakes. The Lord has good plans for us that He will fulfill. For every good and perfect gift is from the Lord. It is only by His grace and blessing that we live and move and have our being.

I remember a teaching I once heard by Charles Stanley, he said, “If the Lord wanted you to be a pastor, you would be.”

Meaning, God’s hand is on our life and setbacks and failures will not derail God’s purposes for us.

I can rest in this. I can be still and know that He is God, and trust Him to work for the good in this situation no matter what happens.

Now then, standstill and see this great thing the Lord is about to do before your eyes! 1 Samuel 12:16

Prayer: Dear Lord, strengthen our faith to handle the trials of our lives. Help us to be still and know that you are God, that you are in control of this situation and that you love us and will work all things out for our good. Help me be still and wait patiently for you. In Jesus name. Amen.

  1. Oh Linda, when I read your text I just started to cry, because I, too, am in a situation I do not understand at all. I have questioned God about this and I am asking for His understanding as mine is failing me. Somethings cannot be explained or understood by us, but God knows and He does care about our brokenness. I am in the pit of ill health and rambling emotions and it is a dark place, but I know God is with me. “He does not leave us or forsake us.” His light shines in our darkness. I love Joshua 1:9. I am joining in your prayer for you and for each one of us. Blessings, Susan

    1. Oh my friend, I am so sorry to hear this. When our plans and hopes are derailed, we often flounder and feel abandoned by God. But that is not true. God adores you dear sister, and is working out his purposes in you. I have had to let go and trust the Lord with the outcome. And pray for peace and trust for you too.
Be encouraged dear sister. You are not alone, the Lord is with you.

  2. One of the hardest things to do….. be patient & trust. But we know that God’s got this!! So now we can start thanking Him in advance for His perfect answer!
