When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, “the Lord is with you, mighty warrior.” “But Sir”, Gideon replied, “If the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us?” Judges 6:12
Gideon is threshing wheat in a wine press, for fear the Midianites might see him and attack him. The wine press can have several different shapes, but Gideon was probably standing in a deep circular stone pit. He doesn’t appear to be very “warrior” like at the time, as he seeks to hide from the Midianites as he works.
Gideon doesn’t even wonder or respond to the angels statement personally, he responds to it nationally, “Why has all this happened to us?” Is he deflecting? Is he just complaining about the situation his people have found themselves in? Or is the term “mighty warrior” so outside his realm of possibilities that he can’t even imagine it?
What does the Lord see in us, that we can’t see in ourselves?
- Our possibilities
- Our passion
- Our faith
- Our desire to serve and help others
Amen Linda, Amen! What a powerful and timely message that we all need to hear. Yes, it’s not about me, but what the Lord sees in me that I don’t see in myself. It’s not about what I can or can’t do, but what He can and will do if I will just surrender to Him. Thank you so much. Amen to your prayer for each one of us and our beloved Nation. Blessings, Susan
