“But the LORD has been my stronghold, And my God the Rock of my refuge.” Psalm 94:22
“For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 3:11
“There is no one holy like the LORD, Indeed, there is no one besides You, Nor is there any Rock like our God.” 1 Samuel 2:2
As I looked at the pictures of the destruction from Hurricane Michael, I saw all that had been swept away: houses, walls, cars, trees, roofs, buildings are all gone. Yet, several foundations have remained. It reminded me that as a child, I was taught the song that the wise man builds his house upon the rock and when the winds and rains come, your house remains. This is an analogy of our faith. If we build our foundation on Jesus, the storms will come and things and people may be swept away, but our foundation of faith remains.
God is always here with us. He is waiting for us to seek Him. He desires us to draw near to Him. How beautiful is this? He’s waiting at all times for us to join Him. Those of us that have our foundation in Him, what does our house look like? Is the heart of your home captivated by Jesus? Are our walls built strongly upon the Word? Do our windows reflect and sparkle His glory, joy, love, and peace?
Yet, what if you’ve experienced a hurricane-type event and you’ve been wiped out? Or you are so tired, sick, hurting, or exhausted that you are in tears and can’t think straight? What if you are just praying for Jesus to come or for you to be called home? If you are hurting, please reach out to a trusted friend for support. Or perhaps you know someone who is discouraged. I lovingly challenge each one of us to come alongside someone in His love. Send a card of encouragement, call a friend or neighbor, connect with someone younger at your church, invite someone to have coffee, or reach out to someone in need. Look to Jesus for your strength. Make Him your foundation.
Prayer: Lord, we thank you for your steadfast love. Thank you for patiently waiting for us to turn our eyes off of our own concerns and onto your blessings. Lord, help us to remove the scales from our eyes to be able to see your family’s needs. May our hands and feet be yours to reach others in your name. We praise you and thank you in your precious Son’s name, Jesus. Amen!
