For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign LORD will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations. Isaiah 61:11
We have finally done it! We don’t know what the outcome will be, yet we are in anticipation for quite a bounty! In years past, my husband and I have always had the blessing of our parents planting gardens, for that reason we did not need to plant our own garden. I did dabble in container gardens while our sons were growing up. Strawberries, tomatoes, peppers and herbs were the typical choices. I researched and pinned hundreds of ideas of raised bed gardens and the stylish potager garden and fancied myself having that type of garden one day with chickens waddling through the rows. I have dreamed of this day for decades!
However, the urgency of wanting to have plenty of fresh fruits and veggies to feed our family during this pandemic sprung us quickly into simply tilling the ground and putting large rows of seeds and plants into the earth. The timing was God divined, as the weather had intermittent rainy days allowing the earth to be just right for tilling. Then, on the hottest day so far this year, the family embarked on our mission and planted our garden praying that God would allow it to grow and mature so that we could share the bounty with others. And now, we wait during these rainy days in hope for good things to come.
As we go through this unprecedented time, let’s think of it as a garden with opportunity for growth. Our trials may make us feel like we are being tilled, yet God is using them to perfect us and get us ready for His planting. We will spring up in His righteousness and praise His name evermore. Be encouraged and let’s bear His fruit for all to see!
Prayer: Dear Father, we come to you with thanksgiving for the work being done in each one of our lives. Help us to mature and be fruitful right where you have planted us. In Jesus’ precious name. Amen.
