When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things. Mark 6:34
I feel very blessed to have had so many excellent teachers in my life. My very first and longest has been my mom. She not only knew how to take exceptional care of me physically, but she knew that Christ needed to be in the center of my life. So much so that she even put Christ’s name within my middle name, Christine. Also, she always took me to church, no matter where we lived or what was going on in our lives.
I had great Sunday school teachers and I remember my sticker chart with little sheep on it for my attendance and memorized verses. I did not want to miss a single one; there would be no empty spaces on my card, just glittery stars! It’s amusing to look back and see what motivated me as a child; a tiny, shiny, glittery star. Yet it really was not about the stars, it was the consistency and repetition of being at church with other believers learning His Word and hiding it within my heart that has made an ever- lasting impression on me.
I have been blessed to have had quite an array of teachers and education, yet the most important “textbook” I’ve read (and continue to do so) is the Bible. It is filled with wonderful teachings from the best of teachers, Jesus. He came to teach us to know our Creator. The entire Bible is an amazing story of the love of God. Open the Bible and be encouraged!
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for meeting us just where we are. Thank you for giving us the Bible, your Word, filled with your love and wisdom for our lives! May we always be listening to and learning from the best teacher of all! In Jesus’ precious name. Amen.
