He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me. 2 Samuel 22:20
Life goes on, even in the midst of chaos and quarantine. As if watching the news is not frightening enough, we are all still dealing with our own chaos and struggles in life.
My sister’s renter, that lives in their basement became hostile and unhinged. She had always been quiet and gentle; we knew she had some issues, but nothing to the extent that they manifested into: screaming, rage, accusations, threats and destruction of property.
What in the world? Where did this come from and what do we do?
My sister was shaking in fear and feeling the presence of the enemy descend on her mind. She could barely tell me what happened through her tears.
I too, was feeling anxious and weepy. I had come home from visiting family in Alabama with a severe case of poison ivy. My skin reacted badly to the poison and I broke out with large patches all over my body. Causing, thick blisters, burning pain and uncontrollable itching. I was miserable to say the least. I am now on my fourth week, and it is wearing me down.
We are living in anxious and confusing times; things that we used to think were stable, safe and reliable seem to be slipping away. It has made me realize that I have been relying and leaning on temporary things: my health, my home, a rational community and freedom from harm, just to name a few.
My brothers and sisters in Christ, only our Lord is stable. These times are reminders for us, that we need to cling to Jesus and stand on His promises with both feet. Cry out for His covering of grace and protection against the enemy, every day! Or we will be overcome with anxiety and struggle to function in our daily lives.
My husband and I went over to my sister and brother-in-law’s home to discuss what was happening and to pray with them. As we called out to Jesus, we could feel the weight of dread slip from our shoulders. Instantly my anxiety was gone, and peace settled on the hearts of us all.
Within a week my sister’s renter had moved out; all praise to Jesus Christ and my sister’s extraordinary husband that remained, calm and patient throughout the whole ordeal.
How blessed are we as children of God! He carves out a safe path for us, through the tangled and dense forest of life, bringing us to a spacious, open place, where we can breathe, see and experience peace when we call out to Him. Though the world may crash down around us, we stand on solid ground with Jesus.
Prayer: Praise you Heavenly Father, for your mercy and powerful protection for those that love you. Help us turn to you daily as we navigate the chaos of life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
