“He said to them, ‘Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to.’ Once the owner of the house gets up and closes the door, you will stand outside knocking and pleading, ‘Sir, open the door for us.’ But he will answer, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.’” Luke 13:24-25
“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If any of you hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with you. And you will eat with me.” Revelation 3:20
When it comes time for your favorite restaurants to open back up, where will you place your reservation? What one spot have you really been looking forward to being able to return and enter its doors to dine in?
It is possible that your favorite restaurant may not open. They may not have survived the financial burden of the pandemic. And so, you will only have the memories of when you had been there before. Perhaps, you celebrated a birthday or an anniversary. Searching your pictures and recalling what it was like only prompts the anticipation and excitement of being with others once again in celebration. Be thankful for your sweet memories.
Now, there may come a time that you will want to make reservations for a new restaurant. Seating is limited and so you must wait several days to get in. It is your reservation day and you eagerly arrive only to be notified that you must wait outside. You are becoming hungry and thirsty. Truth be told, you didn’t eat all day so that you could eat plenty at the restaurant. You begin to become irritable as you think about how you made reservations, yet can not get it!
However, I have great news! There is a place that will always have a reservation just for you! In fact, your reservation was planned for you in advance. Jesus paid the price for you to one day be there. You only need to confirm your reservation by accepting the Lord as your Savior. Then, when it is your time to leave this earth, you can enter the Heavenly Kingdom. The celebration will be like no other!
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, may all who are reading this confirm their reservation. May they grow to know you deeply and sincerely. May each of us hunger and thirst for you alone. Thank you for preparing a place for us and inviting us to come (John 14:3). In your Son’s name, Jesus. Amen.
