“No one lights a lamp, then hides it in a drawer. It’s put on a lamp stand so those entering the room have light to see where they’re going.
Your eye is a lamp, lighting up your whole body. If you live wide-eyed in wonder and belief, your body fills up with light. If you live squinty-eyed in greed and distrust, your body is a dank cellar.
Keep your eyes open, your lamp burning, so you don’t get musty and murky. Keep your life as well-lighted as your best-lighted room.”
Luke 11:33-36 (MSG)
Human behavior has always been an interest of mine. I’m sure that is a contributing factor of why I ended up going to school and receiving a Masters in Counseling Psychology. I enjoy observing and assessing difficult behaviors and helping people overcome their challenges. I admit that I also enjoy watching documentaries as a way to analyze behavior. Unfortunately, I watched one last weekend on a very evil man, that appeared to be charming to many, yet horrible to his victims.
I share this with you because what I watched affected me in so many negative ways. My eyes took in horrific sights that allowed the evil one to stir into me discouragement and fear, which began my week in murky, dark, dank places. Fear and discouragement seeped downwardly into all areas of my life. I was so sad, felt helpless and was in an unhealthy state of mind.
Thankfully, I reached out to loved ones and asked for prayer, began listening to worship songs, read my Bible and felt the darkness lifted and His light began to brightly shine! Oh be careful little eyes what you see! Keep wide-eyed in wonder and belief of the Good News! Be filled by Him to help others see out of their darkness. Pray for one another, show grace to those around you and allow God to use you to encourage each other!
Prayer: Dear Father, please forgive me for allowing darkness into my life by what I chose to watch. Thank you for this tough life lesson. Please allow it to touch the reader’s life in a way that only You can. You alone are aware of the darkness in their lives. Help them to reach out for help and encouragement, so that they too will brightly shine Your light! In Jesus’ precious name. Amen!
